dc.description.abstract | Khaled Hosseini has become a prominent writer for his realistic account and representation of his homeland, Afghanistan. His stories are set against the background of Afghanistan s history, culture, tradition, and ethnic diversity. The theme in his novels is not confined to one country or culture, rather it highlights the hardships, struggles, and journeys that are common between various nations and cultures. He was born in 1965 at Kabul, Afghanistan. His father, a diplomat in the Afghan Foreign Ministry, moved to Paris in 1976. Notwithstanding his eagerness to return to Kabul in 1980, he had to drop the idea owing to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Subsequently, the family sought political asylum in the United States which was granted forthwith. After graduating from a high school in California, Khaled Hosseini earned a bachelor s degree in biology from Santa Clara University. In 1989 he enrolled at University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine from where he got a medical degree in 1993. Hosseini continues to live in Northern California. | - |
