Abstract: | The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of play way method for teaching of mathematics. The sample consisted of 41 children studying in UKG class from selected schools. The sample was divided in two groups as experimental (20 children) and control (21children) groups for present study. newlineThe researcher assessed teaching pattern in mathematics classroom by using self prepared observation schedule. Attitude of children towards mathematics also measured through administering self prepared schedule at baseline level. An informative tool (animated movie) was used to impart education among teachers regarding play way method of teaching mathematics. An intervention programme (play way activities) was designed for teaching various concepts of mathematics in experimental group. After the completion of intervention programmme, researcher assessed the effect of play way activities on different factors of attitude (confidence, anxiety, value for mathematics, and enjoyment in mathematics) and learning of various mathematical concepts in experimental group. newlineResults of the study showed that in post intervention phase experimental group scored significantly higher than control group in confidence for mathematics and enjoyment in mathematics , while, scores of anxiety towards mathematics was significantly lower in experimental group. Though, scores for value for mathematics was higher in experimental group but no significant difference found. newlineIn scores of various mathematical concepts experimental group scored higher than control group with significant difference, except the concept of size . The scores of concept of size in experimental group were higher than control group with insignificant difference. Intervention proved most effective for the concept of subtraction followed by the concept of counting . The outcomes of the study also proved that, the gender of the students do not influence the learning of mathematics and their attitude towards mathematics. newlineHence, the results of the present study demonstrated that the play way method is effective for the teaching of mathematics. newline |
