Abstract: Rapid growth of wireless technology along with explosive growth newlineof internet has increased the demand for wireless data services These services newlineare characterized by strict network guarantees for better performance The newlinebroadband wireless access BWA technique is one of the promising solutions newlinefor such performance based applications As wireless networks have an ease newlineof deployment low maintenance cost ease of configuration and mobility of newlinetheir devices there are challenges that must be overcome in order to further newlineadvance the widespread use of this type of network Application on BWA newlinenetworks is heterogeneous with random mix of realtime and nonrealtime newlineapplications requiring widely varying and diverse quality of service QoS newlineguarantees The requirement of providing endtoend QoS with limited newlinebandwidth resources calls for an efficient scheduling and allocation newlinemechanism However the IEEE 80216 standard does not define the newlinescheduling algorithms which guarantees the QoS required by the multimedia newlineapplications Aim of this work is to propose different approaches for fair newlinebandwidth allocation in broadband wireless networks with multiple traffic newlineclasses and evaluate the performance of the same newlineOne method to achieve QoS guarantee is by assigning weights to newlinecompeting traffic classes If the weights to different traffic classes are newlineassigned statically then it could lead to starvation problem even though newlineservice differentiation is achieved Hence it is required to make the weights newlineadaptive with respect to queue length A dynamic weight assignment DWA newlinetechnique for weight allocation among competing traffic classes is suggested newlineThe weights are assigned to reflect the relative priority and QoS requirement newlineDWA mechanism distributes weight among competing traffic classes such newlinethat fairness is maintained The formulation for weight allocation can be newlineextended to multiple traffic classes Efficiency of the mechanism has been newlinedemonstrated under varying system load conditions newline newline
