Abstract: | This thesis demonstrates the approaches used for Distribution Planning. The major concern for distribution utilities is to reduce the power losses in the distribution network to minimize the overall cost. The distribution system becomes particularly important for any electrical utility because of two reasons - Its nearness to the end user and the high investment cost. The main objective of distribution system planning is to ensure that the growing demand for electricity, with increasing rates, can be fulfilled in an optimum manner, so as to achieve a minimum total cost of the distribution system expansion. newlineThe inadequacies in the distribution network i.e. Voltage regulation, high system losses, high equipment failure, bad quality of power supply and problems related to future load growth need to be addressed by proper planning. A distribution plan must provide good economy and also satisfy various criteria and standards which can be addressed through short-term as well as long-term measures. The basic objective of distribution system planning is to provide satisfactory service to the consumer at the lowest possible cost. newline newline |
