The rapid pace of technological advancements makes communication devices become obsolete very soon To keep up with this pace communication systems are to be designed to maximize the transparent insertion of new technologies virtually at every phase of their lifecycles When these new technologies are inserted the upgraded devices should still be able to communicate with each other and the legacy systems The term newlineSoftware Defined Radio was coined in 1990s to provide the solutions for these problems SDR is a communication device whose functionality is defined in software which avoids the need of hardware alterations during a technology upgrade In order to maintain interoperability the radio systems must be built upon a well defined standardized open architecture The architecture is expected to enhance scalability and provide plug and play behavior for the components of a radio newline newlineen_US
