dc.description.abstractHypertensive disorder during pregnancy remains one of the major health issue for women and their offspring worldwide. Moreover, maternal and newline newlinefoetal comorbidity increases significantly with the presence of preeclampsia. Currently, forecasting the dynamic process of preeclampsia is newline newlinechallenging, as it has a diverse rate of progression in each patient. Hence, it is better to consider and evaluate some high risk factors like age, weight, newline newlinenulliparity, multiple gestations, obstetric history involving missed abortion and history of treatment for infertility. Apart from nonpharmacological newline newlinemanagement, a range of anti-hypertensive drugs is available to treat hypertensive disorders. However, all are considered as controllers rather than newline newlinepreventers. These drugs are employed to treat PIH after considering their safety in newlinepregnancy. newlineIt is now clear that preeclampsia has a complex molecular etiology rather than high BP and renal dysfunction. Placental pathology has been newline newlinepostulated to be the root cause of preeclampsia, as evidenced by the resolution of preeclampsia after the delivery of the placenta. By making a panel newline newlineof predictors/ biomarkers that identify the inflammation associated with faulty placentation, we can take a step towards early detection, prevention newline newlineand treatment of preeclampsia. newlineThe primary objective of the study was to identify the prevalence of PIH in a tertiary care centre in Bardoli, a semi-urban town in west India and to newline newlinedetermine the risk factors associated with PIH. Also, we aimed to observe the pattern of use of antihypertensive drugs in PIH and compare the newline newlineoutcomes. Our secondary objective was to conduct a pilot study to identify certain biomarkers related to the inflammatory changes due to faulty newline newlineplacentation that takes place during PIH. newlineOur entire study was conducted at Mamta Hospital and Maternity Home, Bardoli. Study was divided in two parts: the first prospective observational newline newlinestudy was carried out on total 1536 pregnant women for the duration of one year.
