Abstract: | Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are crucial to every domain application especially for natural resource, land assessment and management. Agriculture and terrain conditions are associated with newline newlineeach other where quality and usage of one defines the impact on the other and vice-versa. Geo-scientists and geocommunity are always concerned about terrain related issues and challenges and newlinestrive to provide geo-spatial solutions. In the present work we have focused upon Terrain Mapping. The thesis describes my approach towards determination of the variogram model and its parameters for newline newlineSouthern Gujarat that have been achieved through extensive calibration and validation. The proposed Terrain Attribute Prediction Model achieves an accuracy more than 74%. newline newlineThe outcome of this work is the proposed GIS for Terrain Mapping that is developed to predict the values of soil chemical properties pH, EC and OC for those villages which have not been visited for sampling newline newlineand testing. The prototype designed has four components viz. Data Source, Data Pre-processing and Store, Predictive Modelling and Cartographic Visualization. Data Source component handles issues newlinepertaining to multiple data sources. Challenges of data inconsistencies are resolved through custom built pre-processing module. The system facilitates prediction of terrain attributes using Predictive newline newlineModelling. It also facilitates visualization of results through maps. The system has been tested for reliability from four dimensions involving terrain attribute prediction, taluka-wise, based on sample input newline newlinevillages and distance. newlineThe work is laid as a foundation for south Gujarat region that is aimed to benefit the farmers to know the basic information of village and taluka for terrain attributes. It also addresses the needs of the geo- newline newlinecommunity by facilitating prediction of land attribute values for those locations which have not been visited, visualize maps. The GIS-based Modelling to Predict Geo-Spatial Variability of Southern Gujarat newlineTerrain Attributes.... |
