Abstract: newline The dissertation entitled, Reinhabiting Kodagu: A Bioregional Reading of Kavery newlineNambisan s The Scent of Pepper and of Sarita Mandanna s Tiger Hills, studies the two newlinenovels mentioned in the title from a bioregional perspective. It uses the concept of newlinebioregional reinhabitation to interpret the two novels to see to what extent the Kodava newlinepeople practice reinhabitation. After studying the definitions and formulations of newlinereinhabitation of several theorists, the present researcher derives her own definition of newlinereinhabitation living-in-place in an injured land by adapting the definition of Berg newlineand Dasmann, which they have stated in their essay, Reinhabiting California. Using newlinethe adapted definition the conceptual parameters of injured land and living-in-place are newlineidentified by closely analyzing Berg and Dasmann s account of reinhabitation. With the newlinehelp of these parameters the two primary texts, the novels taken up for study, are newlineanalysed to establish the thesis that the Kodava people try to reinhabit their ancestral newlineland.
