Crystal growth and characterization of some drugs

Abstract

This thesis entitled Crystal growth and characterization of some drugs is based newlineon the research work carried out by the author as Project fellow, in the Major newlineResearch Project (F.38-251/2009 XI Plan) funded by the University Grants newlineCommission, Government of India, in the Department of Physics, Thiruvalluvar newlineCollege, Papanasam during 2010-2013 under the supervision of the Principal newlineinvestigator Dr. E. RAMACHANDRAN, Associate Professor and Head (Retd.), newlineDepartment of Physics, Thiruvalluar College, Papanasam. newlineThis thesis elaborates the crystal growth of many drugs API of tablets newlinebelonging to the classification of analgesics, antibiotics, antidiabetics and bile acids. newlineThe crystal structures of the grown crystals were determined using single crystal Xray newlinediffraction and density measurement. Morphology of the grown crystals was newlinestudied using computer aided software and correlated with the molecular packing. newlineCrystal surface was analysed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The newlinefinger print absorption bands and the functional groups present in the crystals were newlineidentified using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Thermo gravimetric newlineanalysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were used for the newlinedetermination of thermal stability, thermal and kinetic parameters. newline
