Abstract

This present historical study on the Socio-Political Trends in newlineMadras 1916-1936, traces the history of the non-brand#257;hmiand#7751;s of Tamil newlineNadu with regard to the recognition and maintenance of their self-respect newlinefrom 1916 to 1936 period of study. So this could be aptly and newlineappropriately called a period of non-Brahmin movement which coincided newlinewith the freedom movement. Though several written and published works newlineon this subject have already come up in published forms during the first newlinehalf of the 20th century, they are mostly in generalised forms without newlinehaving any analytical and critical research background. They are mostly newlinein simple narrative form without giving importance to the sources.
