Title: Effectiveness of learning mathematics through direct experience method of teaching for dyscalculic learners at primary school level

Abstract: The main objectives of the study were: i) to develop and validate a Mathematical newlineAbility Test and Achievement Test in Mathematics; ii) to find out whether there is any newlinesignificant difference between dyscalculic learners of control group and experimental group newlineat the pretest, posttest, gain and delayed scores; and Experiment method is used for this study. newlineThe investigator selected Bethlahem Matriculation Higher Secondary school of Kanyakumari newlinedistrict in Tamil Nadu to serve as both experimental and control groups respectively. There newlinewere 24 Standard fifth students in each group. All the sample students in both the groups newlinewere identified as dyscalculics by conducting a Mathematical Ability Test (PMAT). The used newlinetools were Cattell s Culture Fair Intelligence Test (Adopted), PrWi s Mathematical Ability newlineTest (Adopted), AuDe s Achievement Test in Mathematics (Self-made) and Plan for direct newlineexperience method of teaching mathematics at primary school (self-made). t-test was used for newlinedata analysis. The major findings were: i) there was a significance difference between control newlineand experimental group in the gain score and ii) there was a significance difference between newlinecontrol and experimental group with regard to learning objectives and level of intelligence in newlinepost test and delayed test scores. Based on the findings of the present study, interpretations, newlinerecommendations and suggestions for further research were made. newline
