dc.description.abstractThe world of globalisation toady demands the engineering students to augment newlinetheir communication skills to survive in the competitive job market. Communication newlineskills is one of the most prized possessions of human beings besides being a great newlineresource for empowerment in life, career, society etc. Right from his childhood a man newlinetries to transmit and transcribe information through communication. But still the newlineacquisition of these skills is a herculean task for many of the students. Inputs from newlinetextbooks, storybooks, curriculum, reading, writing, speaking, listening, all through these newlineyears do not suffice in the formation of a language system. It is necessary to explore in a newlinedifferent pedagogical strategy and educational trend that would aspire the diverse student newlinegroups with a new learning experience, good exposure in communicative competence newlineand to communicate effectively to land in a better place in their career. Engineering newlinestudents who come from divergent backgrounds should be equipped with the life newlinesustaining skills and it becomes imperative for the teachers of language to make them newlineadept and prepare them to face the challenges of professional life. newline This research is an attempt on how english newspapers can be used to upgrade newlineand integrate the use of the four essential skills of language thereby to instil confidence newlinein the engineering students to prepare them for higher education, campus recruitments newlineand to assure a good job. English newspapers play a vital and effective role in newlinedeveloping one s learning ability. In the teaching of language, the role of print media newlinecannot be neglected. An easily accessible and inexpensive material helps the students to newlinedevelop verbal and non-verbal communication, reading, writing, listening, observation newlineskills, critical thinking skills and reporting skills. Thus the print media is recognised as newlinethe useful tool to teach English language in the engineering classrooms to train the newlinestudents to attain a higher position in their life newline-
