Title: Parental support on self confidence and academic achievement of higher secondary students

Abstract: The study was undertaken to explore the relationship of parental support on newlineself-confidence and academic achievement of higher secondary students. The newlineobjectives were to find out the level of parental support, self-confidence and academic newlineachievement of higher secondary students with reference to the background variables; newlineto find out the significant difference in parental support, self-confidence and academic newlineachievement with reference to the background variables; to find out the significant newlinecontribution of parental support on self-confidence and academic achievement of newlinehigher secondary students. The data was collected from 984 higher secondary students newlineof Nagercoil Educational District in Tamil Nadu with the help of Personal data sheet, newlineParental support inventory (Shanti and Francisca, 2014), Self-confidence inventory by newline(Padmakala and Subramonian, 2015) and achievement scores of higher secondary newlinestudents. The results of the study revealed significant relationship between parental newlinesupport, self-confidence and academic achievement of higher secondary students. The newlinestudy also revealed moderate level of parental support, self-confidence and academic newlineachievement of higher secondary students except that the government school students newlineshowed low level of parental support. There was significant difference in parental newlinesupport with respect to the background variables religion, type of school, community, newlineparent s education, parent s occupation and monthly income of family. There existed newlinesignificant difference in self-confidence with respect to the background variables type newlineof school, community, parent s education, father s occupation and monthly income of newlinefamily. In academic achievement there was significant difference with respect to the newlinebackground variables religion, type of school, community, parent s education, and newlinemonthly income of family. There was a significant contribution of parental support newlineon self-confidence and academic achievement of higher secondary students. newline
