Rapid advances in multimedia applications in mobile and wireless environment have led to the increase in intensity of research particularly in wireless broadband access technologies Many research proposals have suggested techniques based on individual layers of WiMAX model For instance Quality of Service optimization QoS provisioning and guaranteeing is achieved by proposing changes in the functional architecture of the Physical and Medium Access Control layer of the above model newlineQoS provisioning in WiMAX poses many challenges that needs to be addressed Cross Layer Design which takes into account the dependencies and interactions among layers and supports optimization across layer boundaries is used A cross layer design serves the purpose of increasing the accuracy and improving the performance of the system The different layers in the Open System Interconnection model function newlineseparately providing output independent of the other layers CLD overcomes newlinethe disadvantage by using a joint mechanism which works between two newlineadjacent or non adjacent layers newline newlineen_US
