In urban studies, urban morphology is one of the most important subject which define the urban pattern, urban form and urban spaces, as well as composing bridge between forms and shape. The term morphology is derived from the Greek word morphe meaning form refers the science of form . The concept of urban morphology involves not only the study of urban form and structure but also the study of socio-cultural forces acknowledging the fact that the urban form has not only physical nature but also a socio-cultural nature. In urban geography, morphology describes the origin and evolution of a town or urban area and also deals the social and economic process involved in the development of an urban area. newlineAllahabad and Varanasi are the two ancient historical cities of India. The physical and socio-cultural factors like religion, culture, administration, education etc. have played influencing role in the evolution of morphology of both the cities. Despite having same physical and cultural characteristics, both cities have different morphological characteristics. In different periods different forces were dominating the cities. The present morphology of both cities shows haphazard growth like other cities of India despite many planning efforts. newline
