dc.description.abstract | Media streaming video conferencing and interactive networked three dimensional games are applications attracting an increasing number of users currently and the demand is expected to increase exponentially in the future Ubiquitous multiple user access for these applications is a major challenge for wireless networks due to the stringent Quality of Service requirements of multimedia services and the resource constrained wireless communication environment Network operators need to efficiently allocate the wireless resources to increase network capacity and provide services to as newlinemany users as possible at the best possible quality level In the current paradigm of the layered protocol stack each layer of the communication network stack works independently to provide a solution to these challenges The benefits of dynamic adaptation to system and channel conditions have been accepted but the true potential of optimised adaptation is lost if the layers operate in an individual fashion ignoring possible interdependencies between them The Cross Layer Design approach is seen as a newlinepromising technique to meet QoS guarantees for multimedia traffic over resource constrained wireless links Hence an attempt is made in this research work to apply the cross layer design approach in different wireless networks like Wireless LAN Wireless Ad hoc networks and Cognitive networks to improve the QoS performance parameters like throughput average PSNR and the end to end delay for multimedia services newline newline | en_US |
