Abstract: Agriculture sector dominates the Indian economy by providing livelihood to majority of the population. In most of the developing countries including India, agricultural development is a precondition for economic development. The performance of the agriculture sector influences the growth of the Indian economy. The growth of agriculture and allied sectors is still a critical factor in the overall performance of the Indian economy. As per Indian Economic Survey 2015-16 which presented report on February 2016 in 2015-16, agriculture contributed 17.4 per cent to India s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as compared to 18.3 per cent in 2013-14. newline
