dc.description.abstract | Rivers in world with 1.2 x 103 km3 of water account for only 0.0001% of total volume of water in the hydrosphere (Lvovich, 1973). Fresh water is most precious for all living organisms. Today water resources are the most exploited natural systems. Ironically, ability of safe portable water is still a problem of majority of population. Exponential population growth of man and his innate characteristic have brought severe problems on global water resources. Water pollution is one of the major problems in developing country. In India all the major rivers are subjected to various forms of pollution with regular decline in water quality as well as level of underground water. Nearly 70% of the water resource in India is severely polluted and 75% of illness and 80% of child motility is attributed to water pollution. It is a well established fact that domestic sewage and industrial effluents discharged into natural water result in deterioration of water quality and cultural eutrophication (Shaw et al., 1991). The other important sources of water pollution include mass bathing, disposal of dead bodies, rural and urban matters, agricultural runoff and solid waste disposal (Tiwana, 1992). | |
