Abstract: Industries have a vital role in polluting the environment. Pulp and paper industry is one of the largest and most polluting industries in the world. Theusage of papers and paper products has been increased to its extremelevel day by day.Paper mill effluents having high degree hazardous pollutants which are harmful for all kinds of living systems. Madhyabharat paper mills is one of most important paper mills is located at Janjgir-Champa district in Bilaspur Division (C.G), India. We have taken systematic monthly monitoring of physicochemical quality as well as some selected heavy metals and phenolic compounds in different water sources for carrying out in this project. For this eight sampling spots; four Ground water and four Surface water samples were collected in the every month for two sessions 2012-13 (July 12 to June 13) to 2013-14 (July 13 to June 14) and subjected for WQ analysis by the standard methods. The obtained results were compared with the standard values stipulated by BIS (2012) and WHO (2011). In study fields and monitoring session, some selected water quality properties like Turbidity, TSS, T. Alk., TH, SO42-, BOD, COD, NO3-, PO43-, metallic elements such as Na, K, Fe, Mn, Phenol, %Na and RSC have been reported many times greater than excessive permissible level as prescribed by the water monitoring agencies like BIS and WHO which was in the alarming level. In investigation region SW and GW have highly polluted due to Madhyabharat paper industrial activity and indiscriminate dumping and loading of waste and raw materials. This research work clearly specifies that the areas around Madhyabharat Paper Mill have severely polluted It is recommended that ground water is more suitable for use than surface water, even ground water get polluted from leachate.Thisstudy was commenced for water excellence investigation. Prior the using of this water sources purification by indigenous techniques are mandatory.
