Abstract: Chronic illnesses such as stroke, cancer, heart diseases and diabetes are newlinemultiply determined disorders and causes, development and outcomes of these newlineillnesses are determined by the interplay of psychological, social, behavioural and newlinecultural factors with the biochemistry and physiology of human beings. They are newlineknown as life style diseases, as everyday behaviour such as diet, exercise and newlinesmoking puts people at risk of developing such chronic illnesses. It is being noted that newlinecertain personality and behavioural characteristics predispose an individual to having newlinecertain illness. Similarly the psychological processes seem to have important role in newlinepromotion of health and well-being. newline
