Abstract: | Myxopyrum serratulum AW Hill is a large woody climbing shrub belonging to the family of Oleaceae The plant selected for this study was confirmed from its pharmacognostic data Preliminary phytochemical screening showed that the plant contains alkaloids steroids phenols flavonoids terpenoids and tannins An pentacyclic terpenoid Ursolic acid a potent anti inflammatory agent was isolated from Myxopyrum serratulum and was confirmed by HPTLC studies The in vitro and in vivo anti inflammatory studies were done The pharmacological and biochemical parameters suggest that it is a promising anti inflammatory agent of plant origin in the treatment of inflammatory disorders and it possess chronic anti-inflammatory activity and free radical scavenging actions Ethanolic extract of Myxopyrum serratulum restores the damages in cartilage and bones with wide safety margin and found to have no unwanted side effects and toxic effects hence it can be used as a herbal drug against chronic inflammatory disorders newline |
