Nonlinear optical crystals are playing an important role in newlinegenerating green and blue laser beams It is generally believed that newlinenonlinear optical organic crystals possess larger optical nonlinearities than newlineinorganic crystals Both second and third order nonlinear optical effects of newlineorganic crystals have created more interest in the field of crystal growth of newlineorganic crystals due to their chemical stability structure flexibility laser newlinedamage threshold and large nonlinear optical properties newlineThe present thesis deals with the growth and characterization of newlinedifferent types of organic crystals chalcone isomers hydrazone materials newline4 hydroxy benzaldehyde derivative and 4 nitrophenol compound grown by newlinesolution method The first section explains the synthesis growth and the newlineeffect of the position of the substituent in the thienyl ring and also the newlineproperties of the grown chalcone crystals 2 CTP and 3 CTP The formation newlineof compounds is confirmed by the recorded H1NMR spectra A FT IR newlinespectrum confirms presence of all functional groups in both the crystals newlineSingle crystal XRD reports that even though these two compounds crystallize newlinein monoclinic crystal system 2 CTP has centrosymmetric P21 c space group newlineand 3 CTP has non centrosymmetric space group P21 Thermal properties of newlinegrown crystals analyzed by DTA TGA study explain that the 3 CTP newlinecompound is slightly more stable than 2 CTP The transparency of these newlineisomers in the vis IR region has been studied Second and third order newlinenonlinear optical properties of 3 CTP and 2 CTP crystals have been newlineinvestigated by powder SHG and Z scan technique respectively newline newlineen_US
