Abstract: The past two and a half decades have witnessed a noteworthy transformation in the way newlinebusinesses run and operate, with the pursuit for excellence and all-round growth the primary newlineobjective of corporations. Quest of financial growth does not always lead to social newlineadvancement, and is often unfavourable to the environment, resulting in unhealthy newlineworkplaces, exposure to toxic substances, urban decay and other similar issues. newlineManagers and practitioners have often been criticised for being single minded about value newlinemaximisation. The turn of events has pressurised firms to put serious efforts into a wide range newlineof Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and practices. Companies are required to newlinetake initiatives in the field of non-financial activities also such as; employment generation, newlineschools in rural areas, take initiatives to promote small scale enterprises, overall societal and newlinecommunity development, healthy and friendly workplace for employees. newlineCSR has become a critical aspect in strategic decision making of a firm primarily due to newlinefinancial scandals and a drop in investors confidence. CSR has emerged as a view that can newlineadd to the financial performance of a company and suggests that corporate decision-makers newlinemust take care of a range of social and environmental affairs in order to maximise long-term newlinefinancial returns. Every firm differs in the way it implement CSR in strategic business newlinepractices, with its size, operating industry, stakeholder demands, historical CSR engagement, newlinelevel of diversification, research and development and labour market conditions a few of the newlinefactors that determine this decision making. newlineAt the same time Culture of an organisation plays a very essential role in the initiatives of newlineCSR practices in the business.
