Quinoline is a heterocyclic scaffold of paramount importance to human race. Several newlineannulated quinoline derivatives possess variety of biological activities such as antimalarial, newlineantibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer agents. Similarly, hetero-annulated quinolines inhibit newlineDNA topoisomerase I, and display cytotoxic and antitumor activities. Owing to their broad newlinebiological applications, the synthesis of hetero-annulated quinolines has become a subject of newlinegreat importance to organic and medicinal chemists. newlineAccordingly, the research work embodied in the dissertation entitled Applications of newlineUgi, Sonogashira and Barbier reactions: Metal/electrophile-catalyzed synthesis of newlinepyridine, pyrrole, pyran and thiopyran-fused quinoline heterocycles deals with newlineapplications of Ugi, Sonogashira and Barbier reactions to the synthesis of pyridine-, pyrrole-, newlinepyran- and thiopyrans-annulated quinolines, which are divided in two parts. Part I contains newlinethe importance of functionalized quinolines and annulated quinolines along with the synthesis newlineof nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur annulated quinolines while Part II is divided into four newlinechapters pertaining to my research work towards synthesis of pyridine-, pyrrole-, pyran- and newlinethiopyran-annulated quinolines and their spectral and analytical characterization. newline newline
