Abstract: Strategic Management has found wide applicability across industry verticals and the corporate sector with an established positive correlation between strategic management implementation and organizational excellence leading to long-term sustenance. Some universities in the USA started experimenting with strategic management adoption since the early 70s which resulted in the strengthening of their brands, establishing and retaining their global leadership positions on a long-term basis. Strategic management adoption in academia subsequently spread across Europe during the 80s and finally reached Asia in the mid-90s. Several case-studies measuring the long-term outcomes of strategic management adoption on institutional growth, quality, excellence and brand building exist in literature. These case-studies firmly establish that strategic management practice is relevant to academia and works well when planned and implemented scientifically and professionally. newline
