Abstract: | Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of energy utilization and storage, diagnosed by a cooccurrence newlineof three out of five of the following medical conditions: abdominal (central) newlineobesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting plasma glucose, high serum triglycerides, newlineand low high-density cholesterol (HDL) levels. Non-communicable diseases, which newlineinclude Diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease, are world s biggest killer diseases, newlineestimated to cause 3.5 million deaths each year. Eighty percent of them are found in the newlinelow and middle-income countries. The WHO has developed an action plan for newlineimplementation of global strategies in prevention and control of non-communicable newlinediseases. One of the objectives of this plan is to develop simple strategies to identify those newlineat risks together with appropriate and cost effective interventions. The naturopathic treatment approach frequently includes important dietary and newlinelifestyle recommendations included in current medical treatment guidelines for diabetes, newlinehypertension, and hyperlipidemia, although improvements can be made on the precision of newlinerecommendations. A study shown a naturopathic dietary approach to diabetes appears to newlinebe feasible to implement among NIDDM patients. The intervention may also improve selfmanagement, newlineglycemic control, and have influences in other domains of self-care newlinebehaviors. HbA1c improved by an average of 0.5%, which is clinically meaningful. newline |
