EFFECT OF REMEDIAL YOGA MODULE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME

Abstract

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a group of symptoms manifesting as a functional newlinegastrointestinal (GI) disorder in which patients experience abdominal pain, discomfort, newlineand bloating that is often relieved with defecation. IBS is often associated with a host of newlinesecondary comorbidities such as anxiety, depression, headaches, and fatigue and Yoga is newlinewell proven in the management of these conditions. To treat IBS and its complexities, a newlineholistic approach is the need of the hour. The scope of the study is to provide insight into newlinethe complexities of IBS as a mind-body-breath disorder and to evaluate the efficacy of a newlineRemedial Yoga Module (RYM) in treating / managing the primary and secondary newlinesymptoms of IBS.The traditional literature review provides a theoretical framework for the holistic newlineunderstanding of human well-being with the concepts of Païca Koçäs, Triguëäs, newlineTridoñäs, and Ädhi Vyädhi (mind originated diseases) and how it relates to IBS. The newlinemodern scientific literature review gives an overview of IBS and its treatment with newlineconventional modality and its shortcomings.The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of the Remedial Yoga module, in a newlineRandomized Controlled Trial (RCT), that was formulated based on the traditional newlineconcepts of holistic health on the primary and secondary symptoms of IBS patients. newline
