A comparative study of depression stress quality of life job satisfaction and subjective well being among deck and engine merchant navy officers

Abstract

The aim of the present investigation was to do a comparative study of Depression, Stress, Quality of life, Job Satisfaction and Subjective Well-being among Deck and Engine merchant navy officers. For this purpose, 300 merchant navy officers comprised the sample and they were administered tests of the variables. They were also tested on the measures of quality of sleep. The results clearly revealed deck officers were high on Depression, Stress and experienced poor Quality of sleep as compared to engine officers. Engine officers were high on Quality of life, job satisfaction and Subjective well-being. The results imply the need for specific attention to the work patterns of Deck officers. The study focuses on the growing menace which needs appropriate interventions while the officers working at the sea.
