Abstract: In a dynamic environment, the nature of work tasks continues to change requiring newlineemployees to learn new knowledge and skills to perform their jobs effectively. newlineTraining is among the crucial strategies of an organization which helps employees to newlineacquire those necessary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges. Training newlinebecomes relevant in this context since it is only through training that the gap between newlinethe performance of an organization and the felt need of a changing society can be newlinebridged. newlineThe linkage between training and performance has been robustly studied in literature newlinesuggesting that training is a major determinant of employee performance. Further, newlineliterature in the field of Industrial/Organizational psychology implies the effect of newlineperson job fit on the relations between training and performance. To date, there has newlinebeen no evaluation of the impact of employee training on job performance in the newlinecontext of civil service officers of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the newlinepurpose of this study is to examine the degree of direct and indirect relationship newlinebetween employee training and performance, conceiving the mediating role of job fit, newlineas few studies have been reported in literature so far. newlineThe hypotheses were tested on a sample of 171 civil service officers by structural newlineequation modeling technique using PLS approach to measure and test the proposed newlinestructural relationship. The results confirm that employee training is directly related newlinewith improvement in individual s job performance. The results also demonstrate no newlinesignificant mediating effect of job fit on the relation between training and newlineperformance. Further, training was found to effect the perception of job fit among the newlinecivil service officers and in turn, the perception of job fit was found to influence newlineemployee performance to a significant extent. newlineThis research contributes to the existing body of literature by examining both the newlinedirect and indirect effect of employee training on job performance...
