Social responsibility in higher education A model for community engagement at higher educational institutions

Abstract

In India the social responsibility is not integrated very powerfully into the curriculum. Neither is it mandatory nor is it emphasized by HEIs/Universities to be integrated or for it to newlinebe interdisciplinary. Social Responsibility and Community Engagement is not looked at from a broader perspective. newlineThere have been efforts on the part of the Government. (Report of the Subcommittee on newlineCommunity Engagement, Planning Commission 2011) gives various recommendations for newlinestrengthening the community engagement of HEIs. Though there are efforts by Government, more needs to understood, realized and implemented to enhance social responsibility and community engagement at higher educational institutions. newline
