Entrepreneurship development through franchising and franchise type arrangements a study of Jammu and Kashmir

Abstract

The increasing competition both globally and internationally has led to the faster expansion of franchising business than any other growth strategies. It has made the business expansion and growth easier and successful. The mammoth changes that took place consequent to the liberalization wave in the entire economy had to have a very long lasting and deep impact on the way the franchising had been functioning till now. There was a massive shift in the expectations of customers and demand for diverse services. The rapid familiarization of the Indian customers with the sophisticated technologies made them expect the same level of standards of services from the corporates. The entrepreneurship development has attracted increasing interest and the existing studies believe that Entrepreneurial orientation exhibits a context-sensitive positive relation to business performance .i.e. the higher the EO, the higher will be the firm s performance. Although in recent years franchise systems have been subject of many academic studies and a bulk of research focusing strictly on the beneficial effects of franchising has been conducted so far, but very few attempts have been made to link it to entrepreneurship development. From entrepreneurship point of view, several authors have alleged that although the franchisors are usually the real entrepreneurs while as there is a doubt in considering franchisee s activities running and managing their outlets as the entrepreneurial firms. newline
