Abstract: The advent of new technology such as internet has heralded a whole new era for the present newlinegeneration. It has redefined communication, relationships and psychological well-being of adolescents. newlineThe internet is viewed not just as a technological advancement but as an environment in which newlineadolescents spend most of their time. Through the interactive world of technology adolescents are newlinebeing shaped by their exploration of internet. Adolescence is the time of acquisition of skills. Using newlineinternet in an appropriate way helps them to enhance various skills. Hence complete enumeration of a newlinelarger sample size of six hundred students with equal representation of rural and urban adolescent age newlinegroup of 14-17 years studying in class IX, X and XI standard were chosen randomly from four schools newlinelocated at Coimbatore district. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample of newlineone hundred and fifty students from each school. One hundred parents of the both rural and urban newlineadolescent internet users also chosen as sample. Survey based method and self constructed newlinequestionnaires were used to collect the data. It was found from the study that there were acquisition of newlinevarious skills such as academic, social, cognitive, creative, technical, personality and mental health newlinewere higher among urban adolescents than rural adolescent Internet users. Most of the parents of the newlineselected adolescents were aware of the proper use of the internet for their children s skill development. newlinei) Major Objectives: newlineThe general objective of the study is to find out adolescent s skill acquisition through internet usage. newlineii) Hypothesis: newlineand#61656; H01(a) There is no significant differences in academic skill development of rural and urban newlineadolescent internet users. newlineand#61656; H01(b) There is no definite relationship between internet usage and differences of social skill newlinedevelopment among rural and urban adolescent Internet users. newline H01(c) Internet usage does not have any impact on cognitive skill development of rural and newlineurban adolescent internet users. newline
