dc.description.abstractThis research is intended to enhance the competence of undergraduate dental students by developing a working model for competency based clinical dental education The objectives of the study is to implement a model of competency based clinical dental education in the Indian scenario by designing an innovative curriculum with pilot projects A conceptual framework proposed for the study is comprising 248 skills grouped under five competency blocks teaching learning methods were developed and through the pilot study using the Integrated case scripts for teaching diagnosis and treatment planning Flipped clinical training for complete denture prosthesis radiographic training using the error analysis method culminating projects to ensure pedagogic skill Workplace based assessment for professional integrity were used and an action research program was conducted to introduce collective competence Reflective practice using structured worksheets The results showed that in post test performance 90 percent of total participants skills were enhanced by integrated case based training The number of students demonstrated competency in complete denture treatment had higher statistical significance for flipped training method Error analysis results showed that errors made by students significantly reduced in radiographic technique culminating projects closed the disparity among instructors and learners in developing teaching learning resources Workplace based assessment results revealed that professional integrity is enhanced among the participants Students feedback were strongly in favour for collective competence and basic life support training 86 percent of them strongly agreed that high quality dental care is possible through reflective practice This research work concludes to bring noticeable reform in curriculum development teaching learning and assessment methods for successful implementation of the competency based dental education in India
