Abstract: Abstract newlineIntroduction newlineRegional disparity in the context of development perspective for the eastern states of West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand is a major challenge today. The present study is to analyse different aspects of development initiatives undertaken in the four states of eastern India viz. West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand. In the course of our analysis we will specifically try to discuss the demography of the four states, Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), Net State Domestic Product (NSDP), total revenue receipts and their social and development expenditure. To analyse the four eastern states from socio-economic development perspective we select a few important indicators like agriculture, industry, infrastructure, education and health to discuss the overall economic status of the people of this region. Different aspects of economic growth of these four states will be the major concern of our research investigation. newlineObjective of the study newline1. To conduct a comparative investigation on the regional imbalances in growth processes of the eastern states of India - West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand. newline2. To collect and compile data on the different indicators of development perspective, i.e., agriculture, industry, infrastructure, education and health of each of the four states to evaluate their present developmental situation. newline3. Based on the findings the study gives certain recommendations to improve the socio-economic scenario of the four states. newlineResearch Questions newlineDuring the research period, we expect to address the following questions: newline1. What are the major socio-economic causes for regional inequalities? newline2. What are the trends and causes of poverty in the four eastern states in India (West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand) newlineii newline3. What are the measures that need to be taken in terms of resource-industry linkage, to decrease the socio-economic disparity and instigate prosperity in these eastern states? newline4. What are the factors responsible for the poor infrastructural facilities newline
