Abstract: This study is an attempt to examine and compare the level of Yemeni students newlinein English language proficiency, mainly writing skills, in two different situations in newlinethe EFL situation in Yemen and in the ESL situation in India. This research work is newlinedivided into five chapters. newlineChapter one outlines a general background to the study. It starts with an newlineoverview about Yemen and education in Yemen. A review of English and ELT in newlineYemen and in India is given. This is followed by the importance of English Language. newlineThe statement of the problem, the objectives of the study, hypotheses of the study, newlineand the significance of the study are presented in this chapter. The chapter ends with newlinethe scope and limitation of the study. newlineChapter two provides a theoretical background for the study. Thus, it includes newlinea review of the second language acquisition and language learning, the notion of newlineerrors, and approaches to the study of errors. This chapter ends with a literature newlinereview on some related studies conducted on errors and error analysis. newlineChapter three presents the methodological and analytical procedures followed newlinesuch as data collection process and analytical procedures. The chapter also states the newlinenature of the population and its sample. The data collection instrument and how it is newlineadministrated are presented in this chapter. newlinedata obtained from the newlinestudy instrument are analyzed and presented in this chapter. The overall performance newlineof the students is examined and compared in this chapter. The number, types and newlinesources of errors are presented in tables and figures. newlineALZAIN v newlineChapter five presents the findings and the conclusion of the study. The newlinefindings of the study provide a positive answer to the research question that there is a newlinesignificant difference in the English proficiency level of Yemeni students studying at newlineUG level in EFL situation in Yemen and those studying at UG level in ESL situation newlinein India regarding English writing skill.
