Biology of fresh water fish from western Maharashtra Solapur district

Abstract

Present probe entitled, Biology of Fresh Water Fish from Western newlineMaharashtra, (Solapur District) is based on the examination of 293 specimens newlinecollected from the Ujani Reservoir, Solapur District during the one year period newlinefrom January, 2015 to December, 2015. For present probe, the fresh water fish newlineGobius striatus is selected and the work is divided in to 10 topics. newlineTopic number one deals with the Synopsis of the work done. Second newlinetopic deals with the Systematic Position of Gobius striatus. In this topic the newlinefish is classified and its systematic position is identified with giving details of newlineOrder, Family, Genus and Species. The synonymies of the fish are also newlinediscussed in it. newlineThird topic deals with the Maturity and Spawning of Gobius striatus. In newlinethis topic work on maturity as well as spawning, spawning periodicity of fish newlineis studied and discussed with regards to the length and weight of fish. Length newlineand weight at the spawning was also studied. newlineThe Fourth topic deals with study of Fecundity. Fecundity is the egg newlinelaying or egg carrying capacity of a female fish. The Fecundity changes newlineaccording to the length, weight, age and size of the fish. In present study the newlinerelation of Fecundity with length and weight of Ovary, length and weight of newlinefish is studied, accordingly calculations were also made regarding calculated newlineFecundity and observed Fecundity. newlinePonderal Index is the index of robustness. It is calculated on the basis of newlineaverage length and average weight of the fish population. It is depicted in topic newlinenumber Five. newline5 newlineSixth topic is related to the Length Frequency studies. Topic seventh is newlinerelated to the Length - Weight relationship of Gobius striatus. newlineDefinitely there is relationship between all the morphometric newlinemeasurements of the fish. In Eighth topic relation of total body length is newlinestudied with other morphometric measurements of body like the Standard newlineLength, Eye Diameter, Body Depth, Pre Pectoral, Pre Dorsal and Pre Anal newlinelength of the fish. newline
