Abstract: | A planned economic system has been adopted by the Indian economy newlinefor the growth and development of Indian economy and over all newlinedevelopment of the Nation. So far, India has completed 12 Five Year Plans newlinewith some annual plans. No doubt, tremendous developments have been newlinemade in all sectors of the Indian economy. However, India still remains a newlinedeveloping country or developing economy with low per capita income, newlinechronic unemployment, low capital formation, increasing trade deficit and newlineconsiderable population below the poverty line. Economic progress of a newlinecountry in general and family in particular, depends on the working ability newlineof all members of the family. Since, women constitute 48.15% of the total newlinepopulation as per census 2011, it is very essential to make them productive newlineby involving them in productive activities instead of confining them within newlinethe four walls of the kitchen. Of late, the role of women has changed newlineconsiderably due to changing socio cultural environment, political newlineenvironment and technological environment. newlineThe Self-Help Group (SHG) movement in India has been working in newlinethe right direction in empowering women and eradicating poverty in the newlinerural and urban areas. However, women are still not empowered as per the newlineexpectation or compare with the developed nation s women. Women newlineempowerment and poverty alleviation are two major hurdles in front of newlineIndian economy and hindering economical and social development of India, newlineespecially in the rural sector of India. newlineSelf help groups are growing rapidly in our country. Especially in newlinerural India it works very well and shows good effect on the economy and newlineii newlinesociety. With the help of SHG s lot of poor women become self employed newlinewith the available local resources and their skills and knowledge they started newlinetheir own business. Now a day s SHGs play pivotal role in the rural newlineeconomy. SHGs signify not only empowering women but also in respect of newlineinvestment, production, and marketing effort of women. newline |
