Abstract: After the World War II there was realisation of the fact that nearly 85 percent of the world human population was under severe degree of poverty and since then the whole world is revolving around the concept of economic development. There had been differences of opinions about what constitutes economic development. Accordingly there are changes from time to time and from place to place in the strategies adopted by different societies. When World Bank had came ahead for this cause to fight against all kinds of poverty jointly with all the governments, due common state, development programmes became more similar than before. Also there was a completion between different governments. newlineLikewise the government of India was in the race of development of economy. In the beginning India had followed Socialist pattern of economic development till 1991. But mistake was realised and country s development programme was made pro-capitalist. In the last 25 years there had been good economic growth in the country. The state of Maharashtra had been the most leading even in the Socialist India and today also it is at the forefront in the country. But still today the programme of economic development is to reach to the bottom level. There is big question if it can be achieved in the near future because limits seem to be closer than goals. newlineTherefore, we have tried to approach to the case of economic development from different angle. We compared demand and supply sides of economy to see if supply side indicators had been translated into demand side indicators or not. We also compared pollution caused during the development programme in the form of greenhouse gases emission. We have also tried unsuccessfully to evaluate cost benefit analysis on the basis of thermodynamic principle for which data available was big limit. newlinei newlineThe present study discusses about limitations of the economic development and expressed doubt if it can reach to the most marginal any time in the future.
