Abstract

The twentieth century witnessed upsets in almost all literary genres. newlineFrom the Imagist and Symbolist poetry to the Stream-of-consciousness newlinenovel, among all others, the change in terms of milieu and ethos was newlineessential. The western world formed the unconvinced link between the newlineoppressor and the oppressed. The works of the writers like George newlineLamming, Raja Rao, Patrick White, Laura Trevelyan, R. K. Narayan, newlineChinua Achebe, Ngugi Wa Thiong O, Peter Nazareth, V. S. His lifetime literary achievements newlinehave been of rare merit and these achievements won for him the Nobel Prize newlinefor literature in 2001. He is a novelist, a serious traveller, a competent critic newlineand a great philosopher. His literary output is chiefly related to the cultural newlinechaos of the so called Third World and complications of alienation and newlinedisplacement.
