Abstract: The twentieth century witnessed upsets in almost all literary genres. newlineFrom the Imagist and Symbolist poetry to the Stream-of-consciousness newlinenovel, among all others, the change in terms of milieu and ethos was newlineessential. The western world formed the unconvinced link between the newlineoppressor and the oppressed. The works of the writers like George newlineLamming, Raja Rao, Patrick White, Laura Trevelyan, R. K. Narayan, newlineChinua Achebe, Ngugi Wa Thiong O, Peter Nazareth, V. S. Naipaul, newlineMalcolm Lowry, Margaret Atwood, Wilson Harris etc. were being newlineemphasized with difference. newlineSir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul is one of the greatest writers of the newlinecontemporary English speaking world. His lifetime literary achievements newlinehave been of rare merit and these achievements won for him the Nobel Prize newlinefor literature in 2001. He is a novelist, a serious traveller, a competent critic newlineand a great philosopher. His literary output is chiefly related to the cultural newlinechaos of the so called Third World and complications of alienation and newlinedisplacement. His reputation as a novelist has overshadowed his fame as a newlinewriter of non-fiction but the fact is that most of his serious writing is to be newlinefound in his non-fictional works. newlineThe present study aims at analyzing the non-fictional works of V. S. newlineNaipaul in view of his depiction of the Image of V. S. Naipaul as an newlineinsider. Actually, the term, Insider means a person who has special newlineknowledge about the inner workings of a group, organization or institution . newlineHis non-fictional works actually deal with the theme of the protagonists newlinesuffering, predicament and self-identity. Thus, the main objective of the newlineviii newlinepresent study is to analyze the writer s vision of life and Social Realism. newlineBesides, an attempt is made to examine the multiple layers of meanings in newlineview of his search as an insider in his works. newlineThe present research work is aimed at making a detailed study of the newlinenovelist s role as an insider.
