Pollution performance studies of outdoor insulators

Abstract

Due to heavy industrialization, the demand for electrical energy is increasing exponentially. Electrical power has been transmitted at higher voltages to meet the heavy demand. As a result of transmitting the electrical energy at higher voltage had affected the performance of the insulators in the field and the pollution of flashover had been recognized in the year 1990. Many investigations carried out to overcome this problem but some recent incidents of blackouts due to pollution flashover have realized that the problem still prevails and continues to be a serious threat to achieve safe and successful operation of power system network. newline
