Abstract: The electrical energy is transferring from generating station to the consumer through transmission and distribution system associated with losses. The majority of the losses occurred in the distribution systems. It is very much essential to reduce the I2R loss in the distribution system in order to improve the reliability of the power transmission in the distribution system. The I2R losses has been divided into two parts based on the real and reactive components of branch currents. These losses can be minimized by installing compensating devices in the distribution systems. The proposed method introduced a new and fast method for minimizing the loss associated with active current by placing DG whereas minimizing the loss associated with the reactive component by placing capacitor and DSTATCOM placements. The new integrated approach of Loss ensitivity factor and voltage stability index has been used to pre-identify the optimal location of the compensating devices and the optimal size of the compensating devices has been determined by using bacterial foraging optimization and cuckoo search optimization algorithms. To check the feasibility, the proposed method is tested on well-known standard IEEE radial distribution system and the results were compared with other existing technique available in literature. The performance of the proposed method is better with that of other classical methods in terms of optimal results.
