Novel series of Cu (II) complexes of Schiff base precursors with newlinethiosemicarbazide, semicarbazide hydrochloride and ethylene diammine with substituted newlinecarbohydrazones were synthesized and characterized by various physicochemical newlinetechniques like melting points, TLC, molar conductance, LC-MS, FT-IR, UV-Visible, newline1H-NMR, 13C-NMR etc. Based on the spectroscopic studies and microanalysis, the newlinecompounds formed by precursors have distorted octahedral geometries. The precursors newlineand their copper complexes showed varying degrees of solubilities in polar and non-polar newlinesolvents. Conductivity measurement revealed that all the complexes were non newlineelectrolytes. IR and microanalysis data proved that synthesized Schiff bases act as a tridentated newlineligand which coordinated to the Cu ions through the ring N, O and S atom of the newlineligand. The complexes were also tested for their antimicrobial activity against different newlinebacterial strains such as E. coli, S. aureus, B. subtilis and P. aerugenosa at 10 mg/ml newlineconcentration using agar disc diffusion method against standard drug tetracycline. The newlineresults showed that all the complexes are highly effective against all tested strains. All newlinecomplexes were also tested for their antioxidant activity via H2O2 and DPPH scavenging newlinemethod against standard ascorbic acid. All compounds showed potent antioxidant activity newlinein the range of 30-80%. All complexes were also tested for their antineoplastic activity newlineagainst MCF 7 breast cancer cell line. The results displayed moderate antineoplastic newlineactivity against standard drug Tamoxifen under the same experimental conditions. newline
