Abstract: Dandruff is a common problem in day today life, especially during winters. The severity of the problem depends on the individual. Main culprit behind dandruff is still unknown. It is of two types i.e. dry and flaky. Our aim was to prepare herbal antidandruff hair care preparation. In the market so many herbal antidandruff and synthetic shampoos are available but they contain synthetic bases and preservatives. Synthetic agents like Ketoconazole, Sulphide and Tar etc are associated with serious side effect. Our aim was to prepare herbal hair pack for the treatment of dandruff. Formulation was prepared in the hair pack with the intention to get maximum contact time for killing fungus and control dandruff. Market survey for various frequently used antidandruff shampoos was done. Few herbs were found to be used repeatedly among all the antidandruff formulations and they were selected. Extracts of such selected 26 drugs were screened for their ZOI. MIC of the extracts showed positive response was done. Formulation was prepared using 23 full factorial designs for optimization. Physicochemical Evaluation of the formulation was done. Comparison of test formulation with marketed preparation was done and found satisfactory. Safety evaluation showed no irritation on eye and skin. Stability testing of the formulation was conducted. From this investigation it can be concluded that the prepared formulation containing extracts of Terminalia chebula, Pterocarpus santillus, Terminalia bellirica and Spindus trifolitus (as Base) have an excellent antidandruff potential and comparable antidandruff action due to presence of Alkaloids, Glycosides, newlineVI newlineCarbohydrates, Terpenoids, Phenol, Flavonoids and tannins (Gallic acid) in the present prepared formulation with prolong contact time and no synthetic base. newline
