Abstract: | The biology of the species of white grubs was studied in Khed Taluka with both laboratory as well as field experiments were carried out from 2011 and 2013. The occurrence of white grub species found in Khed Taluka was surveyed; we found the two major scarab species that are Holotrichia serrata (Fab.) and Holotrichia fissa (Bre.). The Holotrichia serrata (Fab.) was most dominant species found in Khed Taluka, there was distributed in Wada and Pait regions than Khed and Chakan regions. The Holotrichia serrata (Fab.) beetles were collected from host plant neem, Azadirachta indica and acacia, Acacia arabica, especially neem and Holotrichia fissa (Bre.) were collected from ber, Zizyphus ssp., neem, Azadirachta indica, babhul, Acacia arabica and khair, Acacia catechu, especially ber, Zizyphus ssp. The laboratory, the evaluation of external morphology of scarab species shows Holotrichia serrata (Fab). Adults of Holotrichia serrata (Fab) are reddish brown in colour, compact and medium sized with three pairs of legs. The ventral side is shining, labium and labrum is bristly. An antenna is lamellate type. Tibial spurs are distinguished characteristics of male and female adult identification. Male legs are partially covered by bristles but female legs are fully covered by bristles. The metatarsus claws are double pointed or bidif and sharp. Metatarsus is long in male than female. In the laboratory, the effect of physical factors such as soil type, temperature and soil moisture on the Holotrichia serrata (Fab) adults burrowing depth. Red soil and soil moisture had a significant effect on the depth burrowing soil and the temperature has not significant. The burrow of Holotrichia serrata (Fab) adults in red colour soil had deeper than black cotton soil. All the six basic types of haematocytes viz. Prohaemocytes, granulocytes, spherulocytes, plasmatocytes, coenocytes and coagulocytes are common in the Holotrichia serrata (Fab). The greater toxic effect of biopesticides against the scarab species found in Khed Taluka. Biopesticid |
