Abstract: Every living being has been derived from the water, water is most essential for the existence of life without water man cannot sustain his life for longer period of time. Hence, water is one of the basic resources of mankind. It has numerous uses and is vital to all forms of life. Water is a bio-logical necessity and hence, it is of great economic significance. It is supreme economic wealth even more than coal or gold. Water resource is much freely and easily available natural resource and it has manifold roles. It is used for drinking and domestic purpose, irrigation, power generation, cooling and washing of the machines, and used as a means of transportation and recreation. Now-a-days water is becoming a scarce commodity everywhere. Water was free and has now become an economic commodity on account of increase in population and industrial development. The water coming through the rainfall on the surface of the earth and goes back to the sea and oceans through runoff. It is more than 75 percent annual rainfall, and remaining water is arrested by dams, rivers, lakes, ponds and underground water. newlineThe district of Solapur is known after its district head quarters. Solapur is believed to be derived from two words Solaand#8223; meaning sixteen and Purand#8223; means village. The present city of Solapur is spread over sixteen villages, by and large, the boundaries of the Solapur district in the west, north and south newlinefollow natural features. It is only in the east and north-east that the boundary seems to deviate away from most natural features. This seems to be a result of merger of parts of territories of former princely states and exchange of enclave village between Solapur and the adjoining districts. newline
