Abstract: | Human being is a program that is coded with socio-cultural and emotional script. One interprets an event or an issue depending on the socio-cultural and emotional data mediators feed in it. Interpreted data is then perceived depending on its experiences and knowledge. This research study follows the idea of social constructionism which believes that the social world is constructed by social interactions and in this case its media s messages and interaction with media. newlineIn the twenty first century, knowledge is power and media is a primary source of knowledge. Media not only provides us knowledge it also shapes our conceptualisation of things around us. Knowledge and experience of an event helps us associate some meaning to the elements related it and media gives information to build that knowledge. Hence, media enjoys a great power that not only gives knowledge rather it shapes opinions, attitudes and behaviour and eventually impacts our lives. newlineWith such power in people s hands, it becomes crucial to use it with caution and control. As we perceive events and issues subjectively, which depends on the information we receive and consume, it becomes critical to get holistic information in ethical form. In media practice, ethical decision making is progressively emphasised. Journalists face many challenges; some from competitors and some within the domain. While competing, sometimes they fall into a dilemma as to what can be shown or reported and that what should be shown or reported? newline |
