Abstract: Transition elements are metallic elements that have incomplete d or f shells in the neutral newlineor cationic states. Transition metals differ from main group metals in several properties. newlineOne of the more interesting aspects of transition metals is their ability to form newlinecoordination compounds. Coordination compounds are formed between a metal atom or newlineion and a molecule with one or more unshared electron pairs, called a ligand. newlineIn this context we have synthesized 2-arylimidazo[f] 1,10- phenanthroline, Schiff bases of newline2-chloro ethyl amine ligands and their polypyridine transition metal complexes. newline1.2. Literature survey of transition metal complexes: newlineTransition Metal complexes are the species consisting of a transition metal coordinated to newlineone or more ligands. Literature survey reveal that they play important role in catalysis, newlinephotochemistry and biological systems. They posses diverse chemical, optical and newlinemagnetic properties also. newline1.3 . Instrumentation: newlineUV Visible spectroscopy is used to evaluate the absorption properties of molecules. The newlineUV-Vis spectra of transition metal complexes arise as a result of electronic transitions. newlineIR spectroscopy is useful in determining the coordination mode of ligands. It is an newlineimportant tool for the characterization of ligands and their metal complexes. newline1H-NMR spectroscopy is useful for determining the number of protons present in organic newlineand inorganic compounds. The characteristic signals of ligands in particular position newlineindicate their participation in coordination. newlineElemental analysis is useful for the determination of the percentage composition of the newlineelements present in the compounds. The elemental analysis data suggest the stoichiometry newlineof metal to ligand ratio formation. newlineMagnetic measurements for the transition elements give information about the number of newlineunpaired electrons. The number of unpaired electrons provides information about the newlineoxidation state and electron configuration. Experiments of this type are carried out by newlineapplying an external magnetic field to the sample. newlineThe co
