Abstract: | IRSlA-LISSI spectral dig1 tal data over Tawa reservoir were analysed to determine the feasibility to quantify suspended solids ooncentratial, turbidity , conductivity and seochi depth. River water and bed sediment S8q)les oollected in the Dalth of Decentler 1986, were analysed to determine major anions and cations. The riverbed sedi nents were analysed for grain size analysis and mineraloandy. Tawa zeservoir water S8IlIgtles were oollected al 28 Septeai)er newlineand 20 October 1988 concurrent with IRSlA overpass. Reservoir newlinewater S8IIIgtles have been analysed to determine water newlinechemistry ,grain size analysis and mineralO8Y. The PI, oorducti vi tv, seochi disc depth (water clarity) and turbidity were measured at each S8IIIgtling points in the field. To determine the spectral reflectance characteristics in the range of 0.4 to 0.9 J.l of water as a funct1al of depth and ooncentratialS of black and brown sedi nents in oontrolled ocaii t.icms, laboratory experiments were conducted. The experinental results indicate that spectral characteristics laraely depend al the mineral oaJPgtSi tial, grain size ,oolor and oonoentratial of the suspended sedi ments. It has been observed that shorter wavelength (visible) are IIDre useful than looaer wavelength (near infrared) newlinein estimating the oonoentratialS of suspended sedi menta, turbidity newlineVII newlinelevel, seoch1 disc depth and conduct! vi ty . IRSlA-LISSI ca1Plter ~tible tapes have been obtained from N.R.S.A, }brderabad. The relationship between October 1988 LISSI digital data and measured values of suspended solids.~di ty ,cooductivi ty and seochi depth were quantified usina SiDple linear and JIlll. tiple regression equation.An optim.uo equation were chosen based on higher coefficient of detemination, lowest standard error and F value (4 times greater than F critical).
