Abstract: | The Ph.D. thesis titled NEW DESIGN APPROACHES TO BUILD OPTOELECTRONIC SYSTEMS FOR TESTING AND CHARACTERIZING LASER/IR SEEKER UNITS USED IN PRECISION GUIDED MUNITIONS by Anil. K. Maini under the supervision of Prof. A.L. Verma deals with and explores new design approaches to build optoelectronic systems for testing and characterizing LASER/INFRARED Seeker units used in precision guided munitions. Laser guided munition include bombs, projectiles and missiles, and IR guided surface-to -air and air-to-air missiles due to their precision strike capability are the most widely exploited electro-optically guided precision strike munitions on various land based and air born military plate forms. Periodic testing of operationally vital parameters of major sub-systems of the weapon ensures a high degree of performance efficacy at the time of deployment. The research work in this thesis discusses new design approaches to build test systems capable enough to carry out checks in strap-on conditions which simulate the true battle field like conditions. We have explored use of large bandwidth laser diode with closed loop temperature control modules in various combinations to build test systems for comprehensive characterization.A new design concept is discussed for building a test system for comprehensive characterization of single colour and double colour non-imaging type of IR guided missiles in the realistic battlefield environment. The thesis is divided into 8 chapters incorporating introduction (chapter-1), estimation of laser guided munition delivery parameters (chapter-2), estimation of IR guided missile delivery parameters (chapter-3), test systems for serviceability check of laser guided munitions (chapter-4), test systems for comprehensive characterization of laser guided munitions (chapter-5), test systems for serviceability check of IR guided missiles (chapter-6), test systems for comprehensive characterization of IR guided missiles (chapter-7),Conclusions and future scope of research is given in chapter 8. |
